Testing dogs, and how
Do we test children? Scared and hungry children? Refugees and people in difficult living conditions? Sick and injured people? Of course we do not! It would be cruel. And it is cruel to test dogs. If they are afraid, frustrated, in defense, alone it is even worse. We have no right to test them.
The "test" I do is the only one I would ever use, and it gives me all the information I need to be able to say what the dog needs of care and handling and rehabilitation. It is the only test I can accept being used - and you can learn to do the same.
Heart and head in dog training
Dog training is not only technical skills - since it is a live animal we handle we need to use our hearts not to do any harm, but try to keep the dog's pleasure and good feeling about it. And the brain can help you count seconds and meters and repetitions, to get an efficient training session. Also for planning, and making use of your neocortex for seeing the consequences of what you do!

Dogs in the City
Living and working in a City, London, I see and help a great many dogs, young and old, learn to cope with the busy, noisy, hectic and varied demands of City living. People often mistakenly think that living in a City is unpleasant for a dog but with a creative and sympathetic approach it can be interesting and fun over-coming some of the challenges. Through photo, video and real life stories I can show you my approach.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Dogs can live through extreme experiences. This can induce to long-lasting effects on their emotional and / or behavioural well-being. Some dogs show enhanced sensitivity towards certain triggers – which can easily be connected to their experiences. Often they can be helped by a well-educated owner or trainer.
Others may show strange behaviour in situations that seem to have no resemblance to their experiences: e.g. sudden break-downs or sudden massive aggression. As the behaviour appears “out of the blue”, owners and trainers may see no connection to previous experiences. It can be very hard or impossible to change the emotional situation of the dog and its behaviour.
To understand severly traumatized dogs – and there are many! – I find it helpful to know about the concept of “Post Traumatic Stress Disorder” as used in human psychology.

Noise - When it’s not music to your dogs ears
How sensitive are our dogs? Looking at different noises and how it impacts on them.
What happens when a problem becomes a deep rooted fear? How can we help our dogs to live with noise problems - is it by management or can we resolve the fear?

Play - some biological facts and play rules for daily life
The meaning of a dog's play is highly discussed. The speech will give you a summary of the most important facts. Actions in a dogs play do not happen by accident, they follow different rules. To know these rules is important, otherwise you won't be able to avoid misunderstandings and social uncertainty while playing with your dog. Using these rules increases the joy of playing with your dog and the mutual trust.

Calm yet fun - a doggy day care - how to provide a stress-free environment
Doggie day cares are getting more important for many dog owners. Though they should be a pleasant resort instead of a storage for dogs!
How to create social groups and a dog-friendly environment will be the topics of this talk.

Dogs in motion
Prof. Dr. Martin S. Fischer teaches at the Institute for Special Zoology at the Friedrich- Schiller-Universität Jena, Germany. He has done the biggest research ever on the movement of dogs, with 327 dogs of 32 breeds. Questions of the study were: How far apart are dogs from wolves when it comes to physiology? Are they still built to walk long-distance? Do Chihuahua and Great Dane differ in size only?

Monday Program: Day-trip to Heidelberg
One of Germanys most popular historical cities is very close to our conference venue: Heidelberg. Famous the world over, it is a perennial favourite among international tourists. The city has so much to offer: charm and character in abundance between the Old Bridge and the mighty castle, an unparalleled choice of culture and entertainment, hearty yet heavenly cuisine and a picturesque setting nestled between the Neckar river and the foothills of the Odenwald forest.
Join our day-trip to Heidelberg on Monday, 28th September 2015. We have organized a bus transfer (15 Euro p.P.) leaving on Monday morning. In Heidelberg you will have the day to yourself! From Heidelberg leaves an hourly train to Frankfurt Airport.

The Hubby Program
Just around the corner is Neckarsulm, where one of the two German Audi Production Plants is located, with over 15.000 employees.
At Stuttgart, Porsche and Mercedes-Benz are having their plants, in one hour driving distance. All three plants offer guided tours that give a fascinating insight into modern car production. Watch the 'birth' of an Audi, from the huge, heavy presses, the highly-automated bodyshell construction and the assembly line through to the finished motor car.
Guided tours (in English) are available from Monday to Friday.

The Brochure contest
Leaflets are great in getting messages across!
We need more true knowledge about dogs out there, and regarding this, PDTE-President Turid Rugaas has called a new contest into being:
"We, the Board, have decided to challenge our members' creativity and knowledge, and invite you all to take part in making good brochures for giving information to people.
The idea came up because my students of the trainer education have to make brochures, and they have come up with so many lovely samples, really valuable for handing out to people about different topics, like: the use of harnesses, use of enriched environment, walking your dog, and many, many others.
At this year's AGM in Bad Wimpfen we will have a display of all the brochures you hand in, and they will take part in a contest of the best and most informative brochure! The participants will be able to judge and choose the best ones. The leaflet people choose for a winner will have the possibility of having it printed in 1000 ex. at the cost of the PDTE, and handed out to members. There will also be prizes for no. 2 and 3.
The size should be a leaflet made of max. 1 A4 page, bent once or twice. The content should have a message about something we want people to learn from. Promotion of your own dog school will not be considered. The leaflets must be in English, but people might later want to translate them into their country's language for use.
Remember to have your name and adress on the leaflet.
It should be delivered in paper to Sonja, as the hostess of the AGM, or to your CR who send it to Sonja, or take it with you to the AGM. We will need 3 samples. They need to be handed in at Saturday morning latest.
The winner will have to hand in the data file in high quality, suitable for printing (PDF, JPG, not WORD).
We also want to invite others, like my trainer students, to send in their leaflets for the display. Good leaflets are so valuable for spreading information, and we want to get as much inspiration as possible ! The non-member leaflets will be judged also.
We hope for many good leaflets for the display, and for later use!
Regards,
Turid, the leaflet freak, and the rest of the board"
